Planning a wedding reception in West Maui? Choosing the right restaurant can make your celebration easy and memorable for you and your guests. We’ve put together this guide to some of the best West Maui wedding reception restaurants, including options in Kaanapali, Kapalua and the surrounding West Maui communities.
West Maui is home to some of the island’s most beautiful oceanfront restaurants, from the dramatic coastline of Kapalua to the beaches of Ka’anapali.
For couples planning a destination wedding, these restaurants can be wonderful options for a wedding reception, intimate wedding dinner or rehearsal dinner.
After more than 35 years of helping couples plan Maui weddings, I know how important the reception is.
It’s the part of the day when everyone finally gets to relax, sit down together, eat, laugh, talk and celebrate.
So I’ve put together five West Maui restaurants that are especially worth considering.
Review ratings: Ratings change over time. The ratings below were checked on August 24, 2026 and are based on current OpenTable ratings and verified diner reviews.

One Important Restaurant That Is Not Currently on My List
You may see older Maui wedding articles recommending Pacific’O on the Beach.
I have intentionally left it out of this current list.
Pacific’O historically was a beautiful waterfront restaurant in Lahaina and was a popular choice for romantic dinners and special events. However, current information indicates that it remains closed following the 2023 Lahaina fire.
Because this article is intended to help couples plan a wedding now, I don’t want to send you to a restaurant that isn’t currently operating.
That’s also why I recommend checking restaurant information before making your final plans. Maui’s restaurant and event landscape has changed significantly in recent years.
Questions to Ask a West Maui Restaurant Before Booking
Before committing to your reception location, ask:
- How many guests can you accommodate?
- Is private dining available?
- Is semi-private dining available?
- Is there a food and beverage minimum?
- Is there a minimum guest count?
- Are service charges included?
- Are taxes included?
- Can you bring a wedding cake?
- Can you bring outside vendors?
- Can you decorate the space?
- Is music or entertainment allowed?
- How long can your event last?
- Is transportation available?
- What is the parking situation?
- Is the location accessible for elderly or mobility-limited guests?
And always ask for the total estimated cost.
A menu price isn’t necessarily the same thing as the final price of a wedding reception.
My Advice for Choosing Your West Maui Reception Restaurant
Don’t choose your restaurant simply because it has the highest rating.
Think about the experience.
If you want spectacular scenery and an elegant dinner, Merriman’s may be your style.
If you want beach, music and a classic Maui vacation atmosphere, Duke’s or Hula Grill may be a better fit.
If you want panoramic views and a beautiful sunset, The Plantation House deserves consideration.
And if you want something casual and right along the beach, Leilani’s may be just what you’re looking for.
Your wedding reception doesn’t need to look like anyone else’s.
It just needs to feel like you.
